Push the limit further with thermal underwear
The limits of outdoor sports and recreation have been pushed further every season with lighter, stronger, and cheaper materials composing clothing and gear. Not enough credit is given to one particular item – thermal underwear. Who uses it? Professional athletes, adventurers, and extreme sports stars do – and so should you if you go anywhere during the winter months. Do you ski? Or go mountain biking, abseiling or on hiking trips? Modern thermal underwear is one of the most important items you can pack for survival situations. It can literally save your life if you find yourself getting unexpectedly stranded without means to heat your car, boat, shelter or even your home. Does this happen to “normal” people? Just ask someone who’s little adventure went a bit wrong and ended up lost…or one of the 6 million Canadians who were without power for several days, a couple of years ago…had that been winter, there would have been many casualties from exposure to cold. Think of thermal underwear as a cheap insurance policy. It doesn’t cost a lot (you can find tops and bottoms for about $20 a set) and does not take up much space in your trunk, backpack, or underwear drawer.
Modern thermals are very comfortable and inconspicuous, coming in short and long sleeve designs and in fairly standard colors. Most would be mistaken for t-shirts or underpants, and don’t stick out from regular clothing. Modern production also does away with bulky seams, most of which are now welded with adhesive rather than sewn. The result is that you should not even notice you are wearing them while playing sports or engaging in outdoor activities. Cotton, wool, and acrylic fiber are all used to make thermals, and of these natural wool fiber is still considered the best. It is also the most expensive, but has the advantages of being super soft, highly insulative , as well as maintaining a good performance even when it gets wet. This is important because it is when you get wet that you are at maximum risk of developing hypothermia in severe weather conditions. Not just for outdoors either – stay comfortable and warm in the cold office, at home, or on long train trips. Thermals can make your life a lot easier!
Thinking Of A Toning Belt?
You might have recently decided to join the literal millions of folks that have decided that they simply have to get into better shape. The trouble with this is, it might not always be practical to implement a huge routine into your already busy life. So, you should be aware of some advancements like the toning belt.
What would you consider a toning belt to be? Well, actually it just fits under the classification of any other normal exercise equipment and legitimate machines that you use to help you lose weight or to tone your muscles. This is no more than the exercise solution for when you cannot find the time to use other full sized machines.
All you have to do, is to strap this little device over the area of your body that you want to target. More often than not, this is the stomach and the abdominal muscles. That is really the whole process that you have to do. Strap the belt and put it into place, and then let it work its magic while you are doing other things.
So how does it work? Well, the best way to describe the process, is that the abdominal toning belt itself emits signals into your body that trigger the nerves in the area. When they receive this signal, they contract and then relax. So while you are just sitting or standing there, your body is working towards a tight and toned body.
But you might be thinking that there is really no saying that this actually works. In a way, you would be right. You see, there is very little to suggest that it doesn’t work and a good amount to suggest that it does, however, the only person that can say if this is going to work for you is you. So, if you are willing to try it out, go ahead and do it.

Dancesport – When Dance Classes Get Serious and Competitive
Dancesport is the sports version of ballroom and latin american dancing. There is a strong international scene of dancesport but the sport is particularly strong in Europe and the US. So how do you progress from beginner dancer to dancesport competitor?
Well for me it all started with a few beginner dance classes. Wellington, my home town, has a number of competitive dance studios and I randomly chose one of them – and I was hooked. I have quit several times but the dance addiction keeps drawing me back into dancesport.
Dancesport has two main branches internationally standards (aka ballroom the five dances are waltz, tango, foxtrot, Viennese waltz and quickstep) and latin american (chacha, samba, rumba, paso doble and jve). In Australia and New Zealand we add another sixteen (yes really) New Vogue dances which range from fast waltzes (e.g. Lucille Waltz) to tangos (e.g. La Bomba) to marches (Gypsy Tap).
Competitions are divided by both age (ages range from 6 to 60+) and ability (there are five levels you win through locally). Competitors have the same partner throughout – indeed one of the keys to succeeding in competitive ballroom dance is the ability to find and keep a compatible partner. After all with practices up to five nights a week you spend an awful lot of time together.
The feature that strikes most first-timers at a Dancesport competition is the costumes and the hair an makeup. Dancepsort really believes in the more is more school of fashion. The reason is simple – there may be up to 16 of you on the floor in a heat all trying to attract the judges attention. If they don’t look they won’t even see your beautiful foot work – wearing the wrong colour dress can be as bad as forgetting the routine!
So be warned that innocent dance class can result in a full-blown dancesport addiction.
Proper Running Shoes
As runners we tend to quickly replace our worn out outerwear with little hesitation. We have to always keep in mind that our most important piece of gear is our shoes. Being that running is demanding and taxing on our bodies; shoes are our first line defense.
As our first line of defense we must choose the correct shoes for our body, running surface and distance. Running with improper shoes results in 80% of running injuries. Your shoes should only be used while running as they are designed to provide traction and support.
Most of us agree that our running shoes are our most indispensable item, yet they are also our most expensive piece of gear. Be willing to make the investment as potential injury will cost you more in the long run. Ask your sales associate for help when fitting your shoe. Your shoes must fit your body type, running program, your foot arches running surface and distances. Many stores today have in-house treadmills with high-tech built in programs that read your gait and pronation. If you shop around and look for a discount sportswear store, it’s possible to get good deals on high quality shoes.
If you run more than three days a week it is wise to rotate two pair of shoes. This allows your shoes to rest and in turn extends their lifespan. Replace your shoes every 350-400 miles and check for wear and tear every 3-4 months. Only wear your shoes while running.
Running shoes range in price from $50-$250 per pair. Feel free to keep your options open to non-brand shoes. The quality is still there if you find the right shoe. You may not have as many colors and fun styles to choose from but you will eliminate paying the name brand prices.
To maximize your run look in to the additional cosmetic and fun accessories that you can add to your program. Some accessories are functional such as watches that record speed, time and distance or mini-wallets that attach to your shoe. There are several safety accessories to choose from such as reflectors, blinking lights and weather gear. Of course fun accessories are out there too. You will find several varieties of MP3 and iPod players. Your workout wear is even available with special pockets to hold your music devices and slots for your ear buds. Don’t forget socks! under armour socks are made to be comfortable and durable, and they’re a great choice for running.
There are hundreds of types and styles of shoes to choose from. Take your time and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Your body will thank you!
Cycling Eyewear for Road Racers and Mountain Bikers
Whether you like to tear up the roads cycle racing, or prefer to go “off-roading” on your mountain bike, one thing you will certainly need is a pair of cycling glasses. They will offer much needed protection against flying debris, whether that is dirt and dust on the highways, or mud and broken twigs on the cross country bike trails.
Cycling eyewear is designed to fit perfectly, whatever your style. There are several brands that cater to the road racers, and which offer many ranges suitable for hobby cyclists and professional cycle athletes alike. For the road, cycling sun glasses are generally made to wrap around the head so that the wind cannot blow into your eyes. They fit closely to the face, and most have air vents in the frames to prevent fogging up when you are exerting yourself. Otherwise, they are worn just like normal glasses.
Because of the nature of mountain biking – which is less about smooth, fast riding, and more to do with jumping over rough terrain, with the added risk of crashes – riders tend to wear cycling goggles instead, which are held on by an elasticated strap. Most brands of mountain biker cycle glasses are made to accommodate the fact that the riders also usually wear full face helmets, so they offer protection and comfort.
If you are shortsighted, both road cycling glasses and mountain biking goggles are available with prescription lenses, though you may need to find a specialist brand that provides this option, especially for the goggles. However, this is a far better option than trying to wear goggles over the top of normal eyeglasses. If you cannot find a good pair of prescription ones, you might be better off wearing contact lenses, and you then open up the wide range of options available to normal sighted people.
Whichever terrain you specialize in, always aim to get cycling eyewear that is made from tough polycarbonate, so that it can withstand the shock of being hit by debris. Also look for the right color of lens for the light conditions you will ride in. There are loads of colors available, so it is best to consult the manufacturers’ websites to find the correct ones for you.
How can you get yourself to like exercising more
Exercise can sometimes become a burden. Tired from work, the daily routine, the same fitness program and workout results that sometimes occur too late are just some of the reasons many people give to themselves to stop exercising. We offer some suggestions that stop people who exercise from thinking of reasons like boredom or fatigue.
Join a group to exercise together
It is important to be happy to go to the gym. If you will join a group and you will convince yourself that you have common interests. The time spent at the gym will go faster. Furthermore, you will meet new people and you can also create your own group at the gym. This group will motivate you in case you want to quit.
Bring a friend with you to the gym
Everything becomes easier when there are two persons working together. If the routine is a hindrance to your daily exercise plan, your partner will give you a boost and those few hours you spend at the gym will be more pleasant than ever. It can be a person that shares the same goals and you can even start the same fast weight loss diet at the same time.
Get a yearlong gym subscription
If you go to the gym regularly and you have not yet made a yearlong gym subscription, you should take some time to think this through. A yearlong subscription is actually a guarantee to the fact that you will attend all classes you already paid. And furthermore gyms have equipment and trainers that can help you make a plan. For example every respectable gym has elliptical exercise equipment that can help in weight loss, muscle building. Also the trainer is there to teach you.
Exercises following a strict schedule
Every muscle must be worked out. If time for a type of exercise is too short, the session is unnecessary. Just skip it and do the next exercise in line.
ACI Maverick Paintball Marker Review
The Maverick from ACI is a pump paintball marker with a “Tru-Flow” valve that’s supposed to improve durability and efficiency of gas usage. The gun has a steel reinforced trigger and a factory auto trigger. It also has a device to prevent double cocking and double feeding. It comes with a really nice 12″ barrel and is mostly aluminum, except for the hard plastic grip frame. It looks like a sniper weapon, which is really cool, and the price should be around $70, which is pretty great.
Accuracy: Surprisingly excellent! Used with a sight I’ve seen this gun deliver ball on ball at over 50 ft range. Reasonable accuracy even at distances over 100 ft, easily. The gun is also very lightweight and that makes it very easy to move around with and aim quickly. The gun did come with a “low velocity” and “high velocity” springs though, and the “low-velocity” one came pre-installed and was pretty awful. You need to swap in the “high velocity” spring and then you’re good to go. Also, the barrel is a bit on the small size so you may need to experiment with the ammunition you use. Some brands performed poorly, but I’d say it’s not necessarily the marker’s fault since it performs brilliantly with other brands.
Durability/Maintenance: The gun is easy to take apart to clean and oil. It’s pretty low maintenance compared with some more complex markers. The materials also seem to be pretty hardy so I’d say this is a very durable pump paintball gun.
The only real problem with this gun is it is extremely loud. You’d have to replace the barrel to fix that problem, and if you’re looking for this gun because it’s cheap then you probably don’t want to do that. Still, if you don’t mind a paintball marker that is really loud so long as it’s durable and accurate, this is the pump paintball gun for you.
