Different Carp Fishing Equipment

There are many different types of carp fishing gear that a beginning angler will need to know about before diving head first into that new recreational form.  Fishing isn’t a one species fits all type of endeavor, as fishing for carp is completely different than fishing for walleye or bass or trout.  Because of this, one fishing rod does not fit all in the same way that one type of bait doesn’t work for all types of fish.  If you want to really get into the popular sport of carp fishing then you will want to know about the different types of carp fishing equipment that’s available, both common and not so common.

Carp fishing rods should be middle level action, which gives the best combination to beginners of a good fight along with the strength to hold up against larger fish.  The best fishing line should be a minimum of 12 lb test.  Anything less than that will too easily break with the many carp who end up far larger than that.

Carp fishing shelters are probably something you haven’t dealt with when it comes to other types of sports fishing.  Because the most common form of carp angling includes putting out some lines and then kicking back (great thing if you’re a reader looking to catch up on a book) , so during the day it’s great to have a little tent like shelter to get some shade to enjoy your day.

Whether to go with carp fishing tackle or carp bait is another topic that is often contested, although in this case there seems to be a fairly consistent winner.  While carp have been known to hit plastic tackle and lures, there’s little argument that in most places an actual bait (the more fragrant the better) will consistently outperform a lure.

There are many other bits of carp fishing equipment out there, but at least this gives you an idea of some of the things to look for as you get started with carping.
