Many people don’t really think about purchasing a squat rack as part of their home gym. However, if you are a serious lifter, or even a casual powerlifter, then it is very highly recommended that you do purchase some type of rack system. This is highly recommended for several reasons.

First, having a good squat rack allows you to perform the squat exercises the way they should be done. This is very important, as squats are one of the best exercises you can do for your lower and core body muscles. In addition, it is very difficult to find a replacement exercise that can have the same, or even nearly the same, benefits as the benefits associated with squats. The reason a good rack for squats helps out so much is because you are able to judge how far you are supposed to go down, which is something that most people cheat on not because they want to but because they don’t know exactly how far to go.

The second reason, and probably most important reason, for making sure you have a squat rack as part of your home gym is for safety reasons. So many people try to do just ‘light weight’ without a rack, and end up either doing them incorrectly or do more weight than they should without a spotter, and they end up getting hurt. A good rack will protect you by not allowing you to go down too far. In addition, it will not allow you to have the weights fall on top of your or knock you over backward. Of course, this latter protection is only available if you purchase a rack that has both a bottom secure bar and back secure bars that ‘trap’ the weights inside, making it so the weights cannot fall down or back. So, even if you are looking for cheap squat racks, make sure that it comes with these two key components.
